The Etobicoke Rangers continued their winning ways this week as they picked up a pair of wins in COBA Major Baseball League action. With the two wins, the Rangers now run their record to 9-0 on the season.
Etobicoke kicked off their week on the road as they made a trip to Nelson Park to take on the Burlington Brants. Both team got the bats going early as they each put up three runs in their first at bats. The Rangers would add four runs in 2nd inning followed by another run in the 3rd inning for an 8-3 lead. The Brants would cut into that lead in the home half of the 3rd inning with four runs of their own to make the score 8-7.
Etobicoke would add three runs in the 4th inning to extend their lead again but the Brants would answer back with a run in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 11-8. Etobicoke wpuld add two more runs in the 5th inning for a 13-8 lead but Burlington would put together a big inning scoring six runs and taking their first lead of the game 14-13 after five innings.
After a scoreless 6th, the Rangers would re-take the lead scoring a pair of runs. That lead was short lived though as the Brants would get a run in the home half of the inning to tie the score 15-15. Etobicoke would take the lead for good in the 8th inning as they plated a run followed by two more in the 9th inning. Burlington would manage to get one back in the bottom of the 9th but would drop this game 18-16.
Brad Crone and Hunter Bisser led the way offensively for the Rangers both going 3-for-6 with a home run and a double. Crone scored three runs and collected two RBIs while Bisser had two runs and six RBIs. Steve Miller was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI while while Kyle Bowers was also 3-for-5 with an HBP, a run and an RBI.
Mike Foster was 3-for-5 with a home run, an HBP, three runs and four RBIs while Dan Murphy was 2-for-5 with four runs, two RBIs and a stolen base. Alex Thrower was 1-for-4 with three walks, two runs and an RBI while Micahel Ferracuti wrapped up the Etobicoke offense going 1-for-5 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Anthony Rizquez was 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, a walk, four runs and six RBIs to lead the Burlington offense.
On the mound, Mark Rizzotto drew the start for the Rangers. He threw four innings allowing eight runs (all earned) on nine hits. He hit two batters, walked one and struck out three in picking up a no decision. Steve Ryan came in next and didn't record an out giving up five runs (all earned) on two hits with a hit batter and two walks.
Mike Asta followed Ryan to the mound and threw the last five innings allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits. He walked three batters and struck out eight in picking up the win. Jordan Rienzo picked up the loss for Burlington throwing two innings allowing three runs (all earned) on 5 hits. He hit a batter, walked one and struck out two.
On Friday, the Rangers returned to Connorvale Park and had a home date with the Erindale Cardinals. This was a very tight affair whoch saw the Rangers put up single runs in the 1st and 3rd innings and take a 2-0 lead early. The Cards would cut that lead in half in the 5th inning plating a run. Etobicoke would put up some insurance runs getting two runs in the 8th inning and taking this game by a score of 4-1.
Dan Franceschetti led the offensive charge for Etobicoke going 4-for-5 with an RBI. Michael Ferracuti was 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three runs and two RBIs. Steve Miller was 3-for-3 with a walk and a run while Daniel Murphy was 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.
Kyle Bowers was 1-for-4 with a walk, Ryan Panas 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base while Max Skoropadsky rounded out the Rangers offensive going 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Aneil Birsa led the Erindale offense going 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk and a run scored.
Andrew Hyde drew the start on the mound for Etobicoke and once again was brilliant going five innings allowing one run (earned) on just four hits. he walked one and struck out nine in picking up the win. Max Skoropadsky threw the next two innings allowing no runs on just one hit while walking two and striking out one. I
Ian Zwartz tossed the last two innings allowing no runs and no hits while walking no one and striking out to in picking up the save. Andrew Mullin started for Erindale and took the loss throwing four innings allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits. He walked two and struck out one.
