COBA Major League Week IV Recap feat Erindale Cardinals

The Erindale Cardinals had a short but productive week at the ballpark as they collected a pair of wins on the week. With the wins they now run their overall record to 5-1 on the year and collected the COBA Major Baseball League Team of the Week honors. 

 

The Cards kicked off their week at home as they hosted the Brampton Royals at Greg Cranker Park in Mississauga. The Royals struck first in this contest as they put up single runs in both the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Cards would strike back in the bottom half of the frame pushing across a pair of runs to tie the game 2-2.

 

Not phased, Brampton plated another run in the third inning to take the lead back 3-2. Erindale, again, bounced back in the bottom half plating four runs to take a 6-3 lead. The teams would trade runs in the fourth inning and then each scored four runs in the fifth inning to make the score 11-8.

 

The Cardinals would break things open in the next inning as they pushed across five more runs to take a commanding lead. The teams would trade zeroes the rest of the way as Erindale took this game by a final score of 16-8. 

 

Jay Woodford was the big stick for Erindale in this game as he went 3-for-3 with a home run and a pair of doubles. He also added a pair of walks and a sac fly while scoring two runs and driving in five. John Dewolfe was 3-for-5 with two runs and 5 RBI while Pip Murray-Smith was 2-for-6 with a pair of runs scored.

 

Aaron Palmer was 1-for-4 with a pair of walks and a run, Daniel Freeman was 1-for-5 with a walk and three runs and Zack Marriott was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a HBP, two runs and an RBI. Andrew Glazebrook (HBP, R) Chris Novia (HBP, BB, R, RBI) and Jon Amendola (2 BB, R) rounded out the offense for the Cardinals. Yannick Rickli led the way fro Bramotin going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and 2 RBI while Sam Lebel and Patrick Pinlac both hit home runs.

 

Kevin Lucas collected the win on this night for the Cardinals has he went five iinings allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits. He hit two batters, walked one and struck out one. Adam Forsey followed him to the mound going 1 2/3 innings allowing no rund on no hits while walking one and striking out one. Mark Taplin went the final 2 1/3 innings aloowing no runs or hits and walking only one batter. Cameron Hibbs took the loss for Brampton.

 

Friday, Erindale made the short jaunt down the QEW to Oakville Park and a meeting with the Oakville A's. The Cards wasted no time in this game as they jumped out to an early lead scoring three runs in the first, five runs in the second and another run in the third for a 9-0 lead. Oakville would answer back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the third but Erindale would get those right back in the fourth inning for an 11-2. 

 

Oakville kept chipping away as they scored another run in the fourth inning but the Cards, again answered back with three more runs in the fifth for a commanding 14-3 lead. Oakville would add single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to cut into the lead a bit. The Cards, however, kept their foot on the gas scoring five in the seventh inning. The A's would add a single run in the home half for a final score of 19-6 for Erindale. 

 

Zero K Bats Play of the Week John Dewolfe led the 17-hit attack for Erindale going 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Big Chris Novia was 3-for-4 with a walk, a sac fly, two runs and 4 RBI while Jon Amendola was 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, three runs and two RBI. Newcomer Dylan White was 2-for-3 with a double, a pair of walks, an HBP, a run and two RBI while Pip Murray-Smith was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, a sac fly, two runs and two RBI.

 

Aneil Birsa was 2-for-4 and a HBP, a pair of runs and an RBI, Matt Lamoureaux was 1-for-1 with three walks, a sac fly, a pair of runs and two RBI and Aaron Palmer was 1-for-5 with an HBP, two runs and two RBI. Marcus Coscia (BB, R) and Greg Dodwell (3 BB, R, 2 RBI) rounded out the Erindale offense. 

 

Eric Alcaraz started on the hill for the Cardinals. He went four innings allowing three runs (two earned) on only four hits. He hit a batter, walked two and struck out four Oakville batters. Dan Zelezko picked up the win in the relief as he went two innings allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit. He walked three batters and struck out three in collecting his second win of the year. ANdrew Mullin threw the seventh allowing one run (earned) on one hit. He walked two and struck out one.
