Erindale traveled to Brampton last night to take on the Brampton Royals in COBA Major Baseball League action. The Royals were able to dispose of the Cardinals in a hurry as they took this one by a score of 15-4 in a little more than two hours. The game was called after seven innings due to the league mercy rule.
Brampton got the sticks rolling early in this one as they put up seven runs in the first two innings putting this one out of reach early. Erindale answered back with a pair of runs in the 3rd inning but an eight run 4th inning by the Royals snuffed out any ideas of a comeback by the Redbirds. Erindale managed two more runs in the 5th inning leading to the 15-4 mercy shortened final score.
Jay Woodford led the Cards at the dish going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and three RBI. Chris Novia was 1-for-3 with a double and a run while Johnny DeWolfe, Dylan Goulah and Evan Harrison (run) each had a hit as well. Zac Fascia had a huge night for the Royals. He went 3-for-4 with three home runs and eight RBI fresh off his return home from his season south of the border with Purdue University.
Dan Nauth started and took the loss for Erindale as he went three innings allowing seven runs on seven hits while collecting a strikeout. Rookie Sebastian Santos threw three innings in relief allowing eight runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out two. Fabio DiRoma tossed six innings allowing four runs in collecting the win for the Royals.
With the loss, the Cardinals still reamin winless dropping to 0-4 on the year while Brampton improves to 4-1 sitting a half game behind the league leading Etobicoke Rangers. Up next for the Cardinals is the Brampton Tournament this weekend. They will take on the Niagara Metros on Friday night at FCCC while saturday they will face the Newmarket Hawks and St. Thomas Jr. Tomcats at Dave Dash Memorial Field.
